FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH!

Want to play for the best village cricket club in Berkshire? - then please read on!

Sonning Cricket Club is located in the picturesque village of Sonning on Thames, just to the east of Reading, in Berkshire.

We are a very successful village cricket club, with our 1st XI finishing third in Thames Valley League Divn 2b in 2010, after 2 consecutive promotions. Our 2nd XI finished 4th in TVL Divn 5A in 2010, following promotion the previous year, and our 3rd XI are holding their own in Divn 2 of the Berkshire League.

For the first time ever, we will be playing Sunday league cricket in 2011, with our Sun 1st XI entering Divn 2 of the Three Counties League. In addition we will be re-establishing a Sun 2nd XI for the first time in over 20 years, and we will also be seeking to reclaim the Reading Midweek League Divn 1 title after winning it at the first attempt in 2009. We have a full senior fixture list with cricket to cater for all standards, from mid-April to mid-Sept, and our summer tour to the Cardiff area is legendary!

For further information on senior cricket, please contact the Chairman, Ali Driver:ali@sonningdrivers.plus.com

Our juniors continue to go from strength to strength following their inaugural season in 2008 and we will be running U9s, U11s, 2 x U13s and U15s in 2011 and all will be playing league cricket. Training is held for all age groups on a weekly basis at various local venues including our home ground, King George's Field. For further information on junior cricket, please contact the relevant age group manager via the details on our Contacts page.

We are a very friendly and sociable club which plays hard on and off the field and new players are always welcome.

News

25th January 2012

After the huge successes of the last two years, we will again be taking part in the Natwest Cricketforce initiative on Sun 1st April from 10.30 - 13.00 in order to prepare the pavilion, compound, equipment and ground for the coming season.

Jamie Travers and Ben Zagorski are co-ordinating the event and compiling a task list and we need as many volunteers as possible to turn up and do their bit for the club.

Please confirm your attendance direct with Jamie Travers.

25th October 2011

SCC Oz SectionHaving just returned from Australia, where I met up for a lager sesh with Rhys, Clint and Big Scott, I thought members would be interested in a quick update on who's doing what from our former foreign contingent. (Scotty has become Aussie again after England's pathetic Rugby World Cup).

Cameron Gannon (2008) is now firmly established as a pro in the Queensland side, where he appears to be bowling first change. Apparently he's a bit quicker than when we saw him ! He also plays in the Brisbane Wests 1st Grade side when not playing state cricket.

Retief van der Walt (2008 and 2009) is still playing for his club Ermilo in South Africa, and still smashing it to all parts - and apparently he "honed his skills in English county cricket" according to the newspaper cutting he just sent me!

Wade Johnston (2009) is now playing 1st Grade for Sunshine Coast and is taking lots of wickets.

Rhys Yorke (2010) is now playing 1st Grade for Brisbane Souths, where he is also taking plenty of wickets - including that of Cameron first ball when they met earlier this season! Rhys is keen to come back to Sonning within the next year or two.

Big Scott Stevens (2008-2011) is keeping wicket for a junior team near Brisbane, probably below his playing level, but seems to be enjoying it. He'd much rather be back here biffing it around with the Sonning boys though!
