Last season (our second) season saw lots of exciting developments. Proper matches against neighbouring clubs and the introduction of hard bat and ball for the U11’s. Most importantly, we were able to move to the excellent cricket facilities at King George’s Field in Sonning, the home of Sonning Cricket Club, who also gave us a lot of coaching support and advice throughout the season. We were also thrilled to hear that Sam Methold has been selected for Berkshire County’s winter nets programme, a key step towards selection for the County.
U11's (as at 1st September 2008)
The coming season will see more progress. The U11’s, coached by Neil Methold, played several friendly matches last year and acquitted themselves extremely well. We have entered an U11 team into the 2009 Berkshire Cricket League. They will have nets at Wargrave School in April, and play one friendly and eight competitive matches during the season. The team is basically settled for this year although we are looking for 1 or 2 more players to make up the squad. Please email me and I will forward the details to Neil.
Please return your registration form and cheque directly to Neil (if you have not already done so). We do need a new form each season to make sure that we are up to date (even if the details have not really changed!).
U9's and below (as at 1st September 2008)
The U9’s also had a fantastic season. They did very well in their friendly matches, with wins against Henley and Kidmore End following a couple of narrow defeats.
The format for all U9 age-groups (at 1 September 2008) will be similar to last year. We will meet on Sunday mornings from June 7th until the 16th August. We will start at 10.30 and finish at 12pm.
The focus for the U9’s will remain Kwik Cricket rather than wooden bats and hard balls and we have eight complete sets of Kwik cricket equipment for the children to practise batting, bowling and participate in matches. Boys and girls of all U9 ages and experience are welcome to come along and have a go.
We will be scheduling some friendly matches for the U9’s, perhaps five or six, and selection will be on a rotational and availability basis, to give everybody a chance to play at least a couple of games.
Anyone with an interest, typically 6 years and over, is welcome to come along. We generally introduce the U7’s to basic coordination, batting and bowling skills and play small-sided matches amongst themselves.
Fees for U9’s and below are £35.00 for the entire season in advance of 1st June 2009. Newcomers, who are uncertain whether they will like it, can pay at £5.00 per week, deductible from the season’s fee if they decide to stay on. Please return your registration form and cheque directly to me according to the details on the form. We do need a new form each season to make sure that we are up to date (even if the details have not really changed!).
General
We are also looking to expand the management committee and parental roster and anyone with an interest in cricket, and free on a Sunday morning or two, would be welcomed with open arms.
We are particularly keen to find a parent with an active interest in cricket to lead an U13’s team as we have around 8 boys at that level who want to form a team. You do not need to be a qualified coach, a current or former club cricketer with some enthusiasm would be perfect.
Anyone interested in joining the Club or helping out should email cricket.charvil@ntlworld.com or call me on 07989 606102
